Eddie Peng Claims Good Looks Are Useless, Says Doing Comedy is the Only Way to Get Work

Published at Jan 18, 2026 01:27 pm
Taiwanese heartthrob Eddie Peng recently attended the premiere of the comedy film “Broken Water Pipe” in Beijing. Rarely starring in comedies, he revealed that when the director approached him, he didn’t know it was a comedy, so he acted very seriously at first. He then found acting in comedies extremely enjoyable. The host commented that being funny often affects one’s appearance, unless “you’re Eddie Peng,” and asked how he felt about that. Laughing, Eddie said this just goes to show that good looks are useless, and that you need to act in comedies to get work, declaring, “Looks aren’t important.” Although widely recognized as a heartthrob, he modestly said he wasn’t particularly noticed back in school, and encouraged the male audience present: “Whether you’re a handsome guy or not doesn’t matter, what counts is having that comedic spirit inside you—that’s talent. What girls like most is a sense of humor. There are plenty of good-looking people, but those with inner talent are much rarer.”

At the event, a fan brought up how previously, when asked about marriage, Eddie Peng had said he wouldn’t be in a hurry as long as Hu Ge wasn’t, but now that Hu Ge has kids, does he feel the pressure? He replied, “All I can say is I do feel the pressure—how can I say I don’t? Let’s take it as it comes!” When asked whether he’d teach self-defense moves to his future children, especially his daughter, he said he doesn’t think it’s necessary, and hopes his children can grow up freely and happily: “But if they do learn some moves, it can help them protect themselves. Society is pretty safe these days, but knowing a bit can also help others—as long as it’s within your ability.”
