Trump Accuses China of Interfering in the 2020 US Presidential Election

On the 16th, US President Trump delivered a nationwide speech, accusing China of launching what is believed to be the "largest election data leak in history" during the 2020 US election. A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in the US stated that Beijing "has never interfered in, and never will interfere in, the US presidential election."

According to various foreign media reports, Trump said in his speech at the White House that, as a result, China obtained 220 million US voter records. He also stated that his administration would release a report declassifying intelligence on the “shocking vulnerabilities” of the US voting system.

Trump said: "This data leak event is undoubtedly an unprecedented election security nightmare."

Trump emphasized that he has asked the Director of National Intelligence and the FBI to launch an investigation targeting the Chinese side.

The White House said a classified US assessment report would be released to confirm that vote counting systems are susceptible to intrusion or sabotage by China and Russia.

Trump also said: "Our intelligence agencies actively suppressed and downplayed information about the extent of China's malicious interference in US elections, and concealed the truth from the President and the American people. This level of cover-up is unimaginable."

Previously, Trump repeatedly claimed—despite these claims being refuted—that fraud occurred in the 2020 US election, and implied that foreign forces intervened and tampered with ballots. The US judiciary has ruled and recognized Democratic candidate Biden as the victor at the time.
