On the 7th, multiple locations across Iran activated air defense systems and shot down hostile aircraft. The Iranian Armed Forces stated that US forces attacked oil tankers and launched airstrikes on coastal areas, and that Iran retaliated against US military vessels.
The US Central Command stated that as a US Navy guided-missile destroyer formation was crossing the Strait of Hormuz towards the Gulf of Oman, it intercepted an unprovoked attack launched by Iran and immediately took defensive countermeasures.
According to Iran’s Press TV in the early hours of the 8th, after several hours of exchanges of fire, the situation on Iranian islands and coastal cities along the Strait of Hormuz had returned to normal.
