(Kuching, 14th) With the Indonesian government agreeing to open the Tapiluk-Entikong border, this border will become a catalyst for regional trade.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari said this is also an important milestone in recent bilateral talks between Malaysia and Indonesia.
"During the bilateral meeting, at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar, I met with Indonesian President Prabowo and took the opportunity to discuss the issue of the Tapiluk-Entikong border."
"The Indonesian authorities have agreed to open Tapiluk and Entikong as trade routes. President Prabowo indicated his agreement to open the border for trade, even though there were initial differences between both sides."
He said that Tapiluk and Entikong will become important trade hubs connecting the two countries.
He made the above remarks last night at the opening of the Sarawak Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Community Hostel and the association's 70th anniversary celebration.
Abang Johari added that this successful cooperation will bring more business opportunities to the people of Sarawak and the surrounding areas of Tapiluk.
Against the backdrop of cooperation between the two governments, he stated that Indonesia has requested the Sarawak government to increase electricity supply from Lubok Antu to Badau.
"This means that we need to increase the electricity supply to Indonesia, which will become the basis for our cooperation with Indonesia."
"Therefore, from the perspectives of economy, agriculture and trade, we can take advantage of many opportunities to develop the integrated ASEAN economy."
