(Bandar Seri Begawan, 27th) The Qingdao Overseas Chinese Language Teacher Training Program arranged for its participants to visit the Laoshan Cultural Scenic Area—Laoshan Taiqing Palace—during their leisure time after classes. There, they experienced the solemnity of the birthplace of Taoism, the mystical charm of thousand-year-old trees, and the majestic scenery where mountains meet the sea, making it a must-visit to appreciate the essence of Laoshan, known as the 'fairyland among mountains.'
Laoshan stands tall by the coast of the Yellow Sea and is renowned as the 'most famous mountain above the sea.' Its southeastern slope features the Taiqing Palace scenic area, which is the core of both Laoshan's natural beauty and Taoist culture.
Taiqing Palace, which has the longest history and the largest scale among Taoist temples in Laoshan, is known as the 'second most important temple of the Quanzhen School of Taoism in the world.' It is said to have been built during the Western Han Dynasty, and has a history spanning over 2,000 years. The temple faces the sea and is backed by three sides of mountains, enjoying excellent feng shui. Main halls include the San Guan Hall, San Qing Hall, and San Huang Hall, all arranged in an elegant and solemn layout. The temple is home to many ancient and rare trees, among which the Han cypress entwined with climbing trumpet creeper, the dragon-headed elm planted in the Tang Dynasty, and the Ming Dynasty camellia 'Jiangxue' (now extinct) are most famous, filled with spiritual charm and legendary tales.
The Taiqing Scenic Area is not only renowned for its Taoist temple but also for its enchanting natural scenery. Here, mountains and sea unite, with blue seas, azure skies, red cliffs, unique rocks, ancient trees, and palatial halls together forming a unique 'fairyland by the blue sea' landscape. Strolling along Taiqing Bay, visitors can witness magnificent sea-eroded landforms; climbing up the steps, one can admire Laoshan's distinctive rock formations and secluded valleys. The area has a mild climate, with neither harsh winters nor scorching summers; the vegetation is lush and the air is fresh, making it an excellent destination for seeking tranquility, escaping the heat, experiencing Taoist culture, and enjoying the wonders of the mountains and sea.
