KUCHING,13 June: The Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) will be expanded to primary schools as part of the efforts to strengthen digital safety among children.
To support the initiative, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Kuching branch held a ‘Train of Trainer’ (ToT) workshop for KIS at its office here on Thursday.
MCMC Kuching Division Deputy Director, Mohd Mu’izzuddin Rengga, delivered the workshop that aims to build a foundation of understanding about safe and responsible internet use without directly introducing social media.
“In addition, it also teaches the three golden rules of the internet – maintaining personal confidentiality, communicating respectfully, and identifying and reporting harmful content.
“This workshop also seeks to focus on the formation of healthy digital habits, understanding online rights and responsibilities, and basic safety awareness in the digital environment,” he said.
It was attended by 21 participants from the constituencies of Padungan, Pending, Batu Lintang, as well as National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) in Pending, Tabuan Desa, and Padungan.
MCMC is also actively training more facilitators, particularly from the MADANI Community, to help deliver the campaign effectively across the country, including in schools.
During the workshop, participants were engaged in group training sessions using a comprehensive campaign module, which included guidelines, interactive games, presentation slides, and informative infographics.
These materials were designed to help MADANI Community members share digital safety information effectively with school children in their local areas.
The programme also featured a briefing on the MCMC Nexus application, developed specifically for Android users, which serves as a tool to test the quality of internet services – such as download and upload speeds, and real-time user experience.
The app offers four key functions – a Speed Test to assess data transmission rates, a Data Experience Test to evaluate access to popular content, a Route Survey for customised or preset testing along specific routes, and a Building Survey to measure network performance floor-by-floor within buildings, displayed over floor plans.
The briefings were delivered by MCMC Kuching Regulatory Director, Lo Ann Ni, and MCMC Kuching Deputy Director, Dickey Awai.
