Mainland Taiwan Affairs Office: Waives Fees for 'First-time Visitors' from Taiwan Applying for Mainland Travel Permits

The Chinese mainland has once again released favorable news for the people of Taiwan: the Taiwan Affairs Office announced on Wednesday that, from July 1 this year until December 31, 2027, the application fee for Mainland Travel Permits (Tai Bao Zheng) will be waived for 'first-time visitors' from Taiwan.

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office, announced at a regular press conference on the 25th that, to further facilitate the travel of Taiwan residents to and from the Chinese mainland and to expand interactions and exchanges between people across the Strait, the Chinese mainland's Ministry of Finance, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the Immigration Administration have jointly decided that, from July 1, 2025, to December 31, 2027, the fee for 'first-time visitors' from Taiwan applying for Mainland Travel Permits will be waived.

According to Taiwanese media ETtoday News Cloud, currently the fees for Taiwanese residents applying for Mainland Travel Permits vary depending on the application type and processing time. For general new applications or expired permits, the regular processing fee is 1,500 New Taiwan Dollars (216 Ringgit), while the expedited fee is 2,400 New Taiwan Dollars (346 Ringgit).

In cases of loss or damage, the regular processing fee is 2,600 New Taiwan Dollars (375 Ringgit), and the expedited fee is 3,400 New Taiwan Dollars (490 Ringgit). In addition, there are even faster 'priority' or 'super rush' options, with fees adjusted accordingly.
