The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said in a statement on the 24th that Iran’s nuclear research reactors and power reactors were not attacked, and the personnel and environment of Iran’s neighboring countries have not been affected by radiation.

IAEA Director General Grossi stated in the statement that some Iranian nuclear facilities suffered serious damage and there were some localized leaks of radioactive and chemical substances inside. However, there are currently no reports of elevated radiation levels outside the facilities. Based on data held by the agency, the personnel and environment in Iran’s neighboring countries have not been affected by radiation.

He stressed that in terms of nuclear safety, “It is crucial that Iran’s nuclear research reactors and power reactors have not been attacked.”

Regarding Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility, the IAEA’s assessment is that several tunnels close to its underground facilities and an entrance to the underground facility were hit. As for the Natanz nuclear facility, the IAEA infers from the situation of material storage in the underground workshop that the U.S. attack may have caused localized contamination and chemical hazards.

In addition, on the 24th, Grossi said on social media that he had sent a letter to Iranian Foreign Minister Aragchi, proposing that both sides hold talks as soon as possible.

He said: “Restoring cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency is key to reaching a diplomatic agreement and ultimately resolving the Iranian nuclear issue.”
