Korean Female Star Suffers Facial Burns from Medical Aesthetic Procedure, Accuses Clinic of Refusing Further Compensation

Former AOA member Kwon Mina underwent a sleep-assisted medical aesthetic procedure in February this year. Upon waking, she was shocked to discover severe burns on her face and was diagnosed with second-degree burns, with 10% of her total body area injured, mainly concentrated on her face. Since the incident, she has not only been forced to stop working but also has to undergo continuous treatment, enduring both physical and mental torment.

On June 5, Kwon Mina published three lengthy posts on social media, sharing the latest updates on her recovery. In the photos, although the blisters and burn injuries on her face have visibly improved compared to when the incident happened, clear and obvious scars still remain. She revealed that doctors estimated her treatment would take about two years and may even require skin graft surgery. She wrote: “Around the end of last year, I signed contracts with several places and scheduled shootings. To be honest, I felt really happy.” However, after the procedure, the shoots had to be cancelled, and she even had to compensate for these losses.

Due to the severity of the injuries affecting her appearance, she has completely suspended her work and even had to return part of her filming fees. She revealed that the clinic director involved had once paid compensation for the shoot and covered her medication and treatment expenses for March, totaling about 20 million won (approx. 51,678 Malaysian Ringgit). However, she accused the clinic of no longer covering any subsequent costs since March.

Kwon Mina helplessly pointed out: “Apart from the treatment fees, psychiatric consultations, medication, transportation, and all expenses for products helpful to burn recovery—all have been borne by myself.” She admitted that, so far, her total losses have reached nearly 100 million won, and combined with being unable to work normally and ongoing high medical costs, it has caused her immense suffering.

Regarding the clinic's handling of the situation, Kwon Mina said she found it unacceptable. She had tried several times to contact the clinic via messages, but was instead accused by the other party of “intimidation.” She said, “I also worried if I would say something wrong or do anything detrimental to legal proceedings, so I stayed silent for a while. But now, I really can’t understand it anymore and feel very sad.”

Finally, she wrote in a heavy tone: “At least the director can still continue running the clinic, whereas my life now consists only of the psychiatry office, dermatology clinic, and my home. I won’t contact you again. I’m sorry for causing you trouble.” Many netizens left comments to cheer her on, hoping she can recover and regain her strength.
