(Bandar Seri Begawan, 16th) — Enforcement officers from the Brunei-Muara District Government’s Licensing and Enforcement Department found one individual and two companies in violation of Chapter 30 of the Miscellaneous Offenses Act and imposed fines on them.
On July 3, during a routine patrol jointly conducted with enforcement officers from Tutong, local resident Suhadi was caught dumping used tires at Jerudong Beach. He was fined BND400. As he failed to settle the fine within the grace period, he will be prosecuted.
On July 7, during another routine patrol near Mukim Kilanas by the Licensing and Enforcement Department, officers found two companies violating the same act.
One company was fined BND2,000 for dumping old wood and roofing materials on vacant land at its factory in Kampong Bengkurong.
The second company was also found, on the same day, dumping waste, boxes, wood, and construction materials at a construction site in Kampong Kilanas, and was likewise fined BND2,000.
Both companies were given a 7-day grace period to pay the fines. Failure to pay will result in prosecution. If found guilty, individuals face a fine not exceeding BND9,000; companies face a fine of BND30,000 or imprisonment of up to 12 months, or both.
