(Bandar Seri Begawan, 4th) His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei's government has announced the establishment of the 'National Committee to Respond to the Impact of Middle East Conflicts,' tasked with monitoring and coordinating national response measures to address the potential impact of geopolitical developments in the Middle East on Brunei.

The government stated that authorities are continuously monitoring the developments of the Middle East conflict and its possible impact on global supply chains and the national economy. Compared to some countries that have already been directly affected, Brunei has so far managed to effectively control the situation, mainly thanks to the government’s previously implemented national reserve policies, strategic material management measures, and other relevant intervention actions.

However, in view of the persistent instability of geopolitical situations and the growing pressure on the basic living needs of the people caused by the current developments, the government has decided to set up a special national-level committee to enhance cross-departmental coordination and strategic response capabilities.

The government pointed out that the formation of this committee is a proactive and preventive move aimed at ensuring Brunei can respond at any time to any possible global supply chain disruptions and to avoid greater future impacts on the country.

The committee will also conduct a comprehensive assessment of the medium and long-term impacts of the Middle East conflict on Brunei’s strategic sectors as well as on the well-being of its citizens and residents.

Key focus areas include energy, food, healthcare, construction, and other important industries that could be affected by international supply chain disruptions.

The committee will be jointly chaired by the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Defence, as well as the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy. Its members will include relevant cabinet ministers to ensure a wholly coordinated government approach to facing these challenges.

The government emphasized that it will continue to closely monitor the developments and take necessary measures in a timely manner to protect national interests, economic stability, and the well-being of citizens and residents.

The latest updates on the 'National Committee to Respond to the Impact of Middle East Conflicts' will be released through the official website of the Prime Minister’s Office from time to time.
