(Bandar Seri Begawan, 22nd) The Immigration and National Registration Department (NIRD), through its enforcement division in Bandar Seri Begawan, carried out an enforcement operation codenamed “Operation NIRD2026”, targeting rental rooms in Kampong Ayer.
During the operation, four foreign nationals were inspected and detained by the enforcement division for further investigation.
They are suspected of violating Chapter 17 Section 15(1) of the Immigration Act, namely overstaying after their entry permits were revoked.
Of these, three foreign nationals are also suspected of violating Chapter 17 Section 9(4) of the Immigration Regulations, i.e., working while on a visit visa.
In addition, one foreign national is suspected of violating Chapter 17 Section 15(2) of the Immigration Regulations, namely working for an employer other than their original sponsor.
Meanwhile, a 46-year-old Indonesian citizen, Jamaluddin, was sentenced to four months in prison and three strokes of the cane for violating Chapter 17 Section 15(1) of the Immigration Act (overstaying after his immigration pass was revoked). The judgment will take effect on January 13, 2026.
