Recently, veteran Chinese actress Wen Zhengrong, whose popularity has risen sharply thanks to her role in the hit drama ‘Shine On Me’, has pointed out that someone online has been using ‘AI face-swap’ technology to steal her likeness, frequently broadcasting it online and using her image to peddle counterfeit and poor-quality products. This act crosses the legal red line and has left her unable to tolerate it any longer. Through her management company, she issued a stern statement demanding that platforms take down infringing content and has officially commissioned lawyers to collect evidence and file a police report.
According to a statement issued on the 1st by Wen Zhengrong’s management company, since November 14, 2025, there has been a surge online of malicious keywords such as ‘Wen Zhengrong’s team links counterfeits to AI,’ ‘Wen Zhengrong suspected of a slip-up,’ and ‘Wen Zhengrong gets into trouble selling facial masks and blames AI.’ Upon investigation, both the creators of these keywords and the accompanying false information originate from a media company in Changsha.
Wen Zhengrong’s management company strongly condemned these actions, calling them ‘organized and premeditated’ use of online armies to maliciously spread rumors that have severely damaged Wen Zhengrong’s reputation. Wen Zhengrong and her company have taken a tough stance, reported the matter directly to the police, published proof of the police report, and firmly emphasized that they will not tolerate such malicious attacks.
However, at around 4 p.m., Wen Zhengrong’s personal account deleted the aforementioned statement and has not issued any further response for the time being. Reporters noted that Wen Zhengrong’s personal account homepage now reads: ‘Except for this account's live streams, all other accounts are impersonators.’ The live stream feed shows that since December 7, 2024, Wen Zhengrong has broadcast more than 280 live shows. In the live stream titles of November 2025, she repeatedly stressed, ‘I’m not AI, I’m real.’
