Chinese actor Hu Ge made headlines in 2023 when he suddenly married his assistant Huang Xining and welcomed a daughter, nicknamed "Little Jasmine." This April, rumors swirled that the couple had welcomed a second child, and both were spotted together at Jiuhuashan fulfilling a vow, with Huang Xining appearing heavily pregnant. Recently, in an interview, Hu Ge admitted for the first time that he is indeed the father of two children, and that the second baby is a boy, fulfilling the Chinese character for "happiness" (with a boy and girl). However, he confessed that he considers himself a very unsuccessful father, as he lacks patience with his son.
Hu Ge has recently appeared on multiple interview programs hosted by Chen Luyu and Tian Pujun. In these shows, Hu Ge humbly claimed he is neither a good father nor a good husband. When asked how he balances family and career, he said bluntly: "I am very unsuccessful; I have not managed to find that balance at all. I spend most of my time out filming, often missing out on my children's growth."
As for rumors about a second child, Hu Ge admitted: "I'm probably more tolerant with my daughter and have less patience with my son," describing himself as a doting dad to his daughter but a strict father to his son. After becoming a father, he tried harder to be consistent in his words and actions: "I strive to become a better person." He recounted one morning when he was about to leave for work and his wife wanted their daughter to give him a kiss as encouragement, but Little Jasmine refused. Hu Ge said he felt heartbroken at that moment because he realized her refusal wasn't a tantrum but rather a wish that he wouldn't leave. This made him keenly aware that he spends too little time with his children.
Hu Ge also said that teaching the children is mostly his wife's responsibility, as he is too busy with work to reason with them. He can only provide subtle hints through his behavior to remind them what kind of person they should be. After realizing how much his daughter needed him, he has tried to bring his child to the set when possible, so she can see how he works and have more time with him. But Hu Ge recalls that on one occasion, he took his daughter to a high-altitude area, and only later did he realize it was too dangerous and that he had not thought it through carefully.
