(Kuching, 15th) Seven fishing enthusiasts were rescued from a boat capsizing incident north of Tanjung Po yesterday afternoon, all escaping unharmed.

In a press release today, Sarawak Maritime Enforcement Agency Director Mohamad Khariri Rear Admiral stated that the incident occurred at around 11 am yesterday due to water seeping into the ship's hull, causing it to sink.

Around 3:30 pm, a merchant ship near the incident location, "MTT Rajang," discovered and successfully rescued all seven who were overboard. The ship then contacted Kuching Port Authority via radio and issued an emergency alert at 4:23 pm. Subsequently, the Kuching Maritime Rescue Coordination Center received the alert at 4:45 pm and commenced a rescue operation.

Upon receiving the information, the Sarawak Maritime Enforcement Agency immediately dispatched the "KILAT 35" maritime boat to meet with "MTT Rajang" and transported all survivors back to shore.

All those rescued safely arrived at the Tun Abang Salahuddin Maritime Complex in Bako Muara Jaya at 7:08 pm that night.

Rear Admiral Khariri reminded all seafarers, especially fishermen and anglers, to always prioritize safety.

"Wearing life jackets, checking the condition of the boat before departure, and monitoring weather changes are all basic but essential safety steps. Life is priceless and should never be taken lightly."

He also urged the public to immediately contact the Sarawak Maritime Operations Center (telephone 082-432006) or dial emergency number 999 if they encounter an emergency or suspicious activity at sea, enabling the authorities to take prompt action.
