Wu Lei Receives Public Apology from Bai Shanshan - 'Bed Photo' Incident Entirely Fabricated

Published at Jan 20, 2026 02:27 pm
Wu Lei, who started out as a child star and maintains a wholesome image, found himself at the center of controversy on the 18th when a netizen named Bai Shanshan claimed to be selling his “bed photos.” Wu Lei’s studio promptly issued a statement denying these claims, and on the 19th, Wu Lei himself spoke out, stating, “I don’t know this person, have already entrusted lawyers to pursue legal action.” That night, Bai Shanshan issued a public apology to Wu Lei, explaining that she initially joked about a friend with the same name and later deliberately tagged Wu Lei’s account to attract attention, which unintentionally implicated Wu Lei. Netizens believe Bai Shanshan only apologized out of fear of legal consequences, expressing support for Wu Lei to pursue the matter to the end. The lawyer Wu Lei appointed has already submitted filing documents, and after the court orders the platform to reveal Bai Shanshan’s real identity, further civil compensation and criminal liabilities will be pursued.

On the 18th, Weibo user Bai Shanshan repeatedly posted accusing Wu Lei of “owing debts”, and claimed to be selling Wu Lei’s bed photos for 10,000 RMB (about 5,821 MYR) per photo, even threatening to “compile a list of male celebrities and make everything public.” However, Bai Shanshan did not provide any photos, chat records, or any substantial evidence. She also created chat groups, charged fans for access, and then dissolved the groups immediately, which is suspected of illegal profiteering.

After Wu Lei’s studio and Wu Lei himself forcefully refuted the allegations, Bai Shanshan changed her story, claiming her account had been hacked. She was quickly contradicted by Weibo’s platform, which stated that after investigation, her account’s login devices and commonly used locations showed no abnormalities, her account had even enabled two-factor authentication, and there was no possibility of hacking. The platform has permanently banned these accounts for “spreading false information,” and relevant leads have been forwarded to the police.

Suspected to be Bai Shanshan using another smaller account, a post was made on the night of the 19th apologizing: “I’m really sorry, Teacher Wu Lei. Things have gotten so out of hand and caused such serious consequences. At first, I was only joking with a friend who had the same name as you, but after my account got banned, I tagged you to attract traffic. I am willing to post an apology to you on all social platforms. I know this cannot really make up for anything, but I am truly, truly, truly sorry. I will be cautious in my actions for the rest of my life. This is my sincerest apology.” She did not mention the suspected fraud, and netizens are waiting to see what penalties might be imposed by the authorities.
