Arif: Blood Donation is the 'Gift of Life' - Hope More People Join the Effort to Save Lives

(Miri, 14th) Dr. Mohamad Arif, chairman of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society Miri Chapter, stated that blood donation is a selfless and noble act that not only brings hope of rebirth to patients but also demonstrates the spirit of unity, care, and responsibility within society.

In his speech at the "2025 Blood Donor Appreciation and Thanks Celebration" held in conjunction with "World Blood Donor Day" this morning, he pointed out that this year's theme, "Donate Blood, Pass Hope - Together We Save Lives," is profound and highlights the importance of the blood donation movement in saving lives.

He said this "simple yet great" gesture can bring health to patients and even give them a chance to live again.

Dr. Mohamad Arif expressed gratitude to all the organizing committee members for their dedication and efforts in making this loving celebration possible, allowing the community to witness the benevolent acts of blood donors and cooperating units.

He stated that over the years, with the joint efforts of numerous businesses, groups, and volunteers, the Miri Chapter has successfully promoted various blood donation activities, ensuring sufficient blood supply in hospitals to serve the public.

"Many unsung heroes work silently behind the scenes without expecting anything in return; their spirit truly reflects the essence of humanitarian service."

He pointed out that besides thanking long-term blood donors and partners, he hopes to recruit more first-time donors to continuously expand the regular donor community, ensuring a stable blood supply for the healthcare system in the long term.

"We are also pleased to announce that we will be holding the '2nd Malaysian Red Crescent Blood Donation and Organ Health Charity Run' on October 19, 2025, at the Permy Dialysis Centre. All registrants will receive comprehensive health check-ups and consultation services, and we welcome everyone to participate enthusiastically."

Arif emphasized that the success of blood donation activities cannot be achieved by any single party alone but is the result of collaboration between communities, governments, businesses, and volunteers. The Miri Chapter will continue to uphold the seven fundamental principles of "Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality" to drive humanitarian aid services.

He also specifically mentioned important projects undertaken by the Miri Chapter over the years, including public first aid and emergency training, ambulance and rescue services, home wound care, and dialysis centers, benefiting countless citizens.

"These plans would not be possible without the support of the Sarawak government and the Miri community. We thank the state government, decision-makers, and all volunteers for their full commitment."

Meanwhile, he also thanked the Miri Hospital blood bank team, especially under the leadership of Dr. Akhlina, for their professionalism and dedication, ensuring that each blood donation event is safe, orderly, and meets medical standards.

"Every drop of donated blood is a gift of life. Let us continue to work together to cultivate a society filled with love, responsibility, and service spirit."
