Malaysia’s renowned online creative team Dissy is making a return to the Lunar New Year box office with the 2026 CNY film “Parasite Scum”. A surprise Easter egg in the movie brings lead actor SangBill together with his late father, local veteran actor Fu Zhijian, on the big screen. Recalling this scene, SangBill became emotional and broke down in tears at the press conference, saying frankly that it was “the fulfillment of both my dream and regret.” For the second time as producer of a Dissy project, Mark Lee expressed hopes for even better results with the new film. He also announced that if the box office surpasses last year’s “Guan Ni Teahouse”, all the actors will celebrate together with a group dance.

After the success of “Guan Ni Teahouse”, Dissy once again brings together the original cast, inviting Pei Yong, Ye Chaoming and others to join and add new sparks to the project. “Parasite Scum” is set for a nationwide release in Malaysia on February 17, the first day of the Lunar New Year. At the press conference held on the 5th, Mark Lee, producer and actor Mok Ren, director and screenwriter Zhang Weichen (Lao Zhang), led SangBill, Da Hee, Adeline Huang Chulin, Pei Yong, Ye Chaoming, Anthony Mayi, Jin Chenwu, Yuriko Wang Zihan, Wang Zhixin, Zuvia Cai Wanquing, Michie Lin Meizuan and Judy Peng Zudi, among other actors, to share insights from the filming process.

At the film’s ending, the director uses AI technology to let Fu Zhijian appear briefly, with a scene where he and SangBill share the screen for just a few seconds, but it moved many people. When asked about 'reuniting’ with his father on the big screen, SangBill couldn’t help but break into tears. He choked up and said that his father had already passed away when he entered the online creative field, and they never had the chance to collaborate. Through this film, he fulfilled a dream and made up for a lifelong regret. He especially thanked the director for making this special “reunion” possible in such a unique way.

Pei Yong in the movie takes on the role of a villain who's “bad to the bone”. As an investor, he jokingly called himself a “sponsor-turned-cast” and laughed that only after seeing the first cut did he realize how unlikeable his character was. Ye Chaoming praised the Dissy team’s strong unity and joked, “I’ve already prepared a contract to join Dissy.” When Pei Yong was asked if he felt pressured over the box office, Ye Chaoming revealed, “He said he’s responsible for RM8 million!” Pei Yong promptly waved his hands and denied, “I never thought of such a thing!” then immediately changed tune and joked, “RM7 million then!” leading to laughter all around.

Mark Lee said he’s not worried about box office numbers: “Box office is always hard to predict, what we care about most is whether audiences feel the ticket is worth it. As long as they do, they’ll naturally spread positive word of mouth for us.” He joked that box office should be left for audiences to decide, but he still hopes that “Parasite Scum” will outperform last year’s “Guan Ni Teahouse”. He further declared that if it does, the whole cast and crew will perform the TikTok dance from the film to celebrate, “We’re not comparing with others—just if we surpass ‘Guan Ni Teahouse’, we’ll do the dance together.”

“Parasite Scum” Sends Early New Year Greetings to Fans

After the press event for the CNY film “Parasite Scum”, the cast hosted a fan meet-and-greet themed “Induction Ceremony” at Pavilion Bukit Jalil, drawing a large crowd of young fans. All cast members appeared in full costume, and producer/actor Mark Lee led everyone in extending early New Year greetings to fans and sending festive wishes, ramping up the film’s publicity.

During the event, a 7-year-old girl boldly complimented SangBill for being handsome, to which he playfully responded, “Then I’ll wait till you grow up… to be friends!” sending the crowd into laughter.

Besides interacting with fans and promoting the movie, Che Zili (Che Zi) also performed the movie’s theme song “Steady Bom Bibi 2.0” live. Other cast members joined in for a group singalong, bringing a lively and interactive atmosphere to the event.
