Popular NTV variety program “Ueda and Women’s Shouting Night” aired yesterday (4th) with a special feature on “age-gap marriages,” inviting several celebrity couples with age differences of over 10 years to share their everyday married life. Among them, the most eye-catching guest was none other than Hollywood superstar Nicolas Cage’s Japanese wife, actress Riko Shibata, who is only 31 years old.
On the show, Riko Shibata revealed that from the very beginning of their relationship, Nicolas Cage was upfront about wanting to date with marriage in mind. After only five or six dates, he was already talking about plans for the two of them to move overseas together, leaving the audience and guests in shock. Additionally, Cage’s way of pampering his wife is truly “Hollywood-style.” Shibata recalled that on their second date, he lavishly gifted an entire heavy-duty motorcycle set (including the bike and protective gear); and on her birthday, he didn’t hesitate to give her diamond and sapphire rings. What surprised the audience most was that even for a simple supermarket grocery run, Nicolas would often unconsciously spend $900 (about 3,548 ringgit) at checkout.
When discussing their family structure, Riko Shibata was also frank about their “complicated” reality. Since Nicolas had multiple previous marriages, she admitted that she not only has stepsons, but is already “a grandmother.” In fact, Cage’s eldest son is even older than she is, prompting host Shin’ya Ueda to exclaim, “That’s too much information for me to handle at once!”
