Andy Lau’s 60-year-old wife makes a rare appearance: Carol Chu spotted with a $20,000 designer bag at Buddhist event

After marrying ‘Heavenly King’ Andy Lau (Hua Zai) in 2008, Carol Chu (previously miswritten as Zhu Liqian) had a daughter, Liu Xianghui, and has maintained a very low profile, quietly dedicating herself to her family and willingly remaining the woman behind the superstar. Recently, Chinese media exposed photos of Carol Chu attending a Buddhist event, sparking heated discussion.

From the photos, Carol Chu can be seen with her hair in a ponytail, wearing a loose, pure white shirt, at a Buddhist event held by the seaside. Although she wore a mask with only half her face showing, her features still appeared delicate, her complexion fair, and her hair dark and shiny, showing virtually no obvious signs of time. The black Chanel 22 bag on her shoulder, worth about 200,000 TWD (approximately 24,000 MYR), also became the focus of attention, adding a touch of luxury to her simple look.

Andy Lau met Carol Chu in 1986, with their romance reported in 1991. Although they were photographed together by the media many times, Andy Lau always denied the relationship. It wasn’t until 2009, when Carol Chu’s father passed away and Andy Lau’s name appeared in the obituary, that their marriage was officially made public. In fact, Andy Lau had already registered his marriage with Carol Chu in Las Vegas, USA, in 2008.

Last week, Mrs. Xiang (Chen Lan) revealed in a video that before marriage, Andy Lau was a lady-killer, followed by fans wherever he went, even at his front door. Back when Carol Chu was still his girlfriend, to avoid being noticed, she deliberately avoided riding in the same car as Andy Lau—'maybe even hiding under the car and covering herself with a blanket.' Director Wong Jing also once mentioned on his YouTube channel that he thought Carol Chu had a hard time dating Andy Lau: they could only meet a few times in several months, and during Lunar New Year, they had to pick less crowded places so they wouldn’t be recognized.
