(Bandar Seri Begawan, 13th) Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Malaysia’s Sunway University will officially sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on October 22, 2025, marking a new chapter in the collaborative relationship between the two institutions. The MoU will be signed by UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr. Hazri and Sunway University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sibrandes, witnessed by several senior representatives from both sides.
The MoU covers multiple areas of cooperation, including student and staff exchanges, academic development, and joint research programs centered on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In his address, Dr. Hazri expressed that UBD is pleased to take this important step, as both sides share a commitment to education, research, and community engagement.
Sunway University President Professor Poh Pei Ma introduced the “Sunway Community Service for a Healthy Planet” initiative. This program collaborates with communities to provide over 26,000 urban residents with educational resources, public health services, environmental cleaning, solar lighting, and employment opportunities, demonstrating the university's positive contribution to society.
This collaboration symbolizes both universities’ shared commitment to making universities engines of social progress. Through cooperation in education, research, and community development, both parties aim to empower students to become agents of change and to promote sustainable development practices, thereby laying the foundation for a healthier planet and a better future.
