(Bandar Seri Begawan, 13th) The Brunei delegation recently visited the INTERPOL headquarters in Lyon, France, to attend the 13th "INTERPOL Global Experts Meeting on Combating Human Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrants."
The Brunei delegation included personnel from the Office of the Commissioner of Police of the Royal Brunei Police Force, comprising the Human Trafficking Investigation Team, the International Affairs Division of the Criminal Investigation Department, INTERPOL, and ASEANAPOL units. This meeting attracted 175 participants from 70 countries worldwide, including Southeast Asia.
The conference featured 10 plenary session topics, with 32 experts from various fields sharing and discussing. Content focused on the investigation of human trafficking and smuggling cases, law enforcement cooperation, and related support. Brunei's Deputy Commissioner of Police, Hajah Anis, was invited to speak at the fifth plenary session—"Providing Member Countries with Investigative Support on Human Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrants"—presenting a special report titled "Human Trafficking Cases in Brunei."
The purpose of this meeting was to highlight INTERPOL's important role as a global coordinator in fighting transnational crime. Through technical support, professional training, and cooperation and exchanges among law enforcement agencies of various countries, the capacity to tackle human trafficking and smuggling crimes will be further enhanced. At the same time, the meeting also provided bilateral and multilateral exchange opportunities for participants to discuss strategies and best practices in investigation, protection, prosecution, information sharing, and international cooperation.
