(Miri, 7th) Miri Football Association president Saif stated the hope to promote the simultaneous development of Miri football and the tourism industry through football events.
He expressed his gratitude to Kuching City Football Club (Kuching City FC) for their cooperation and showed confidence in the mutual development during an interview at the group match of the 2025 President’s Cup (Piala Presiden 2025) held this afternoon at the Lutong Petronas Recreational Club field in Miri.
He stated that this collaboration is not only a breakthrough in sports but also expected to elevate the overall football standard in Sarawak and further stimulate the local tourism industry.
“The performance of the Miri football team in this year's National Youth Cup is a good start. We have secured 1 win and 3 draws, and hope to gain another victory in today's home match. Although not yet at the top, our goal is to reach the top four.”

“In the past, many believed Kuching City FC belonged solely to Kuching. Now, through the collaboration with Miri, we hope to convey a message to all football fans in Sarawak: this is a team representing all of Sarawak.”
In terms of youth training, Kuching City FC will station their U20 youth team in Miri, comprising players from various parts of Sarawak. Coaches and staff will be selected and managed by the Miri side. He particularly thanked the Miri FA and head coach Hakimi, who commenced preparations two months ago, making significant contributions to uncovering local football talent.
“We are selecting not only Miri players but also talents from different regions of Sarawak, making this plan more inclusive.”
He emphasized that today is the first home game, hoping the team can secure all three points, injecting more confidence and motivation for the upcoming schedules.
Saif also thanked Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, who, despite being out of the country for work, sent representative Jeffery Phang to the field to boost team morale, showing support for the players.
He stated that sports events can not only discover and cultivate new talents but also promote the development of the sports industry in Sarawak. He added that such events have positive impacts on Miri’s tourism industry as well.
“This match has attracted 28 players along with accompanying family members, bringing more traffic and business opportunities to Miri, presenting a good opportunity to promote the development of the tourism industry.”
Finally, he thanked all organizing units, supporters, and the collaborative efforts of Sarawak and Miri Football Associations, believing that with the power of sports, Miri and Sarawak’s football and related industries can step onto new heights in the future.
