Travel platform Traveloka recently released data showing that during the 2026 Songkran Festival, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, and Krabi have become the most popular domestic travel destinations for Thai tourists. Coastal cities and cultural tourism cities continue to be favored, leading to a significant increase in travel bookings during the festival period.
According to Thai Headline News Agency, Charles Huang, Vice President of Business at Traveloka, said that Songkran is not only a tourism peak but also an important time for Thais to return home for family reunions, continue traditions, and welcome new beginnings. Whether heading north to visit relatives or south for a beach holiday, the platform hopes to help travelers arrange their trips smoothly during this peak season.
The latest search data shows that the top ten domestic destinations in Thailand during Songkran are: Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Krabi, Phuket, Hua Hin, Koh Samui, Bangkok, Hat Yai, Khon Kaen, and Koh Samet. Among these, coastal destinations account for the majority of searches, indicating that during the long holiday tourists are more likely to prefer seaside holidays.
Pattaya tops the rankings, with local Songkran celebrations lasting for an extended period. The sand pagoda building and water splashing events will continue until April 19, making the festive atmosphere even more lively. Chiang Mai, on the other hand, attracts a large number of tourists for its traditional Lanna cultural celebrations, with water-splashing activities at Tha Phae Gate and large-scale water festivals being major highlights.
Krabi, Phuket, and Hua Hin remain popular seaside destinations, ideal for outings with family and friends. At the same time, search volumes for island destinations such as Koh Samui and Koh Samet are rising, reflecting that some travelers now prefer quieter and more natural holiday environments.
Bangkok remains the national celebration center, with major events such as the Maha Songkran Festival at the Royal Plaza, the S2O Music Festival, and the Siam Songkran Music Festival expected to keep attracting tourists. Hat Yai and Khon Kaen, on the other hand, maintain considerable popularity due to the demand for hometown visits and regional travel.
