(Miri, 26th) To promote Chinese traditional culture and strengthen member camaraderie, the Miri Chinese Women’s Association held the “Dragon Boat Festival Greetings - Rich Aroma of Rice Dumplings to Celebrate Together” event last night at the association’s office, featuring a retro costume competition.
This event, apart from celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival, also combined Mother’s Day and the celebration of members’ birthdays from the first half of the year, making it a triple celebration with significant meaning.
Acting President Dato Seri Goh Yew Chong, on behalf of President Zhang Changsheng, stated in his speech that the Dragon Boat Festival is an important traditional festival of the Chinese nation, symbolizing unity, courage, and patriotism, while embodying the cultural value of commemorating Qu Yuan. Mother’s Day, on the other hand, is a day to express gratitude for maternal love, reminding us to cherish family and kinship.
“Tonight, we celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, Mother’s Day, and members’ birthdays together, not only promoting Chinese traditional culture but also strengthening emotional bonds between members.”
He hopes that through similar events, the younger generation will understand the significance of traditional festivals, continue the cultural roots, and wishes all families happiness and reunion, mothers health and joy, and society more harmony and prosperity.
Additionally, the Miri Chinese Association, Youth League, and Women’s Group will jointly host the “Parents’ Day Dinner and Member Veteran Appreciation Singing Contest” at 6pm on June 22nd (Sunday) at the Fuhua Restaurant, inviting members to actively purchase tickets and participate.
