(Miri, 25th) SK Senadin Junior Fire Brigade was officially established yesterday, and a certificate presentation ceremony was held at the Lutong Fire Station. This marks the school as the first primary school in the Miri Division to have a Junior Fire Brigade, and the 11th school in Sarawak overall to implement this program.
This initiative, jointly promoted by the sixth division of the Sarawak Fire Department and the Lutong Fire Station, aims to cultivate disaster awareness, emergency response knowledge, and discipline among students from a young age. The certificate presentation ceremony took place at 3:30 PM on May 25 at the Lutong Fire Station, officiated by Sarawak Fire Department Director, Jamri Masran.
In his speech, he stated that the Junior Fire Brigade program was launched in 2023 with full implementation in 2024, aligning with the second core theme of the National Fire and Rescue Policy 2021-2030—“Practice and Promotion of Safety Culture.” Through the establishment of Junior Fire Brigades in schools, the program aims to build a generation that is more aware of disasters and equipped to handle emergencies.
He highlighted that the establishment of the Junior Fire Brigade has multiple objectives, including cultivating an awareness among primary school students about fires and emergencies, educating them on responding correctly in such situations, enhancing their discipline and teamwork, as well as empowering guiding teachers to acquire and effectively impart professional knowledge to students.
He expressed gratitude towards SK Senadin's principal, Teacher Ahmad, for his support, as well as Junior Fire Brigade advisory teacher, Teacher Louisely, for her cooperation. He also specially thanked all the students who will soon receive their certificates. “Your participation signifies a concern and responsibility for societal safety.”
He also revealed that SK Senadin is the first primary school under the Miri Education Office to establish a Junior Fire Brigade, and the second in the Miri Division after SK Batu Niah under the Subis District Education Office.
“We hope this collaboration can expand to more schools, allowing fire safety education to take root from a young age, truly practicing ‘preparation before disaster.’”
He also thanked the entire organizing committee and staff for successfully completing both the “Run with Bomba Miri” and this event in one day, showcasing the fire department's efficiency, enthusiasm, and professionalism.
At the end of the ceremony, Jamri Masran officially announced the establishment of SK Senadin's Junior Fire Brigade, presenting certificates to student representatives and the school authority.
