(Roulou, 4th) The recent Sabah state election results show that five independent candidates and several candidates from small parties have successfully been elected, clearly indicating that our country's political landscape is moving in a more diverse direction.
Roulou Member of Parliament Sun Wei Xuan stated that the latest voting patterns suggest the 16th General Election will very likely result in a “hung parliament,” giving small parties and independent candidates the opportunity to decide who forms the government.
He emphasized that it is currently uncertain whether a unity government can be formed again after GE16; even if formed, it also remains to be seen who will be selected as Prime Minister.
Sun Wei Xuan believes that in order to maintain administrative stability and continuity, the current government needs to readjust its policy strategies to ensure that all component parties of the unity government are fairly represented in the cabinet.
He stated: “If the Prime Minister wishes to stay in power, the government needs to adopt more inclusive measures, bringing all coalition party representatives into the cabinet, just as was done in the past with Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional.”
