(Kuching/Singapore, 4th) Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari today participated as a member of the Malaysian delegation at the 12th Informal Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Summit held in Singapore.
He joined other leaders as part of the Malaysian delegation led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar, traveling to Singapore for a working visit and attending this informal leaders’ summit.
Among those accompanying Datuk Seri Anwar at the summit were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah, as well as Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
The Sarawak delegation also included Sarawak Minister for Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, as well as Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Abu Bakar and others.
The Malaysia-Singapore Informal Leaders’ Summit is an important platform for both countries to discuss regional and international issues, review cooperation progress, and strengthen bilateral relations.
This summit, hosted by Singapore, will witness the exchange of several memoranda of understanding as well as an agreement between Malaysia and Singapore.
Speaking about Sarawak-Singapore relations, Abang Johari noted during Wednesday’s departmental wrap-up at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly that Sarawak has received conditional approval from Singapore’s Energy Market Authority for the Sarawak-Singapore subsea power cable project.
He said this approval is an important step towards building the ASEAN power grid and will also drive Sarawak’s vision of becoming a regional green energy hub.
