The 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on strengthening cooperation between the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on the 5th Eastern Standard Time. The draft resolution was jointly submitted by China and other countries.
China Central Television (CCTV) reported on the 6th that the resolution affirms the constructive role of the SCO in ensuring peace and sustainable development, promoting regional cooperation, and strengthening good-neighborly relations and mutual trust. It emphasizes the importance of strengthening dialogue, cooperation, and coordination between the UN system and the SCO.
The resolution proposes that the Secretary-General, through existing inter-agency forums and formats—including regular high-level interactive dialogues between the UN Secretary-General and leaders of regional and other organizations—continue consultations with the Secretary-General of the SCO; it also proposes that all relevant UN specialized agencies, organizations, programs, and funds cooperate with the SCO and jointly implement relevant programs to achieve their objectives.
