(Bandar Seri Begawan, 1st) The Brunei Kwong Wai Mutual Aid Society recently welcomed its first overseas clan association visitors of the year—a five-member delegation from the Labuan Kwong Wai Chiu Association—for a friendly exchange visit locally.
During the welcoming ceremony, Brunei Kwong Wai Chairman Yip Tian Fook stated that the visit by the Labuan delegation not only deepens the connection and exchanges between the two locations' Kwong Wai associations, but also gives the guests an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the current development of Guangdong-origin clan associations in Brunei.
He introduced that there are currently five Guangdong-origin clan associations in Brunei: Bandar Seri Begawan Kwong Wai Mutual Aid Society, Brunei Kwong Wai Chiu Association, Brunei Tai Po Association, Brunei Hakka Association, and Brunei Chung Cheng Hakka Union, spread across Bandar Seri Begawan and Belait District.
He noted that since its establishment in 1970, the Brunei Kwong Wai Mutual Aid Society has focused on providing welfare to fellow clan members as its main mission, making it one of the oldest Guangdong-origin clan associations in the country. This year marks its 55th anniversary, and a celebration will be held in November.
In his speech, Yip Tian Fook also congratulated the Labuan Kwong Wai Chiu Association on its upcoming 173rd anniversary and wished them a successful celebration event.
In addition, he especially thanked the Society’s Honorary Advisor, Ku Kong Lai, and clan member Wong Chi Ling for voluntarily serving as tour guides and drivers during the reception, enthusiastically leading the delegation to visit Bandar Seri Begawan and other clan associations, which demonstrated deep clan unity and a spirit of selflessness.
“I wish your delegation a smooth and fulfilling journey in the Land of Peace and hope you create many wonderful memories,” he said.
