KUCHING, July 20: The automated external defibrillator (AED) machine contributed to the Sarawak General Operations Force (PGA) Brigade today will enable security forces to respond swiftly in medical emergencies and save lives before help arrives, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

The brief handover ceremony took place at the health clinic of the Sarawak PGA Brigade Headquarters here, where Dr Sim, who is also State Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, handed over the AED to Sarawak PGA deputy commander ACP Rosdi Inai.
Rosdi, who accepted the unit on behalf of the force, expressed his appreciation to the Sarawak government for its concern over the health and safety of security personnel often on duty in the field.

“AED machines are essential in responding to emergencies such as heart attacks, as they are designed to be used swiftly by trained individuals to deliver an electric shock to the heart, increasing the chances of saving lives before medical personnel arrive,” according to a press release.

In his speech, Dr Sim stated that the contribution of the AED machine is part of the Sarawak government’s continuous efforts to support logistical needs and improve the readiness and welfare of security forces.

“We want our security teams like the PGA to not only maintain public safety but also have the ability to act swiftly in medical emergencies. This contribution is a symbol of the government’s support and appreciation for their service and sacrifice,” he emphasised.

He also highlighted the importance of regular AED usage training to ensure the equipment can be effectively and efficiently used during real-life emergencies.

The ceremony was also attended by senior officers from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), including Commanding Officer of Battalion 11 PGA, Supt Ku Majidi Che Ku Jusoh, as well as representatives from the Sarawak Health Department, who provided a briefing on AED operating procedures.

“The handover of the AED machine is expected to bolster the Sarawak PGA Brigade’s preparedness in handling medical emergencies during operations, training activities, or within the force’s premises.

“This initiative aligns with the Sarawak government’s commitment to enhancing the health and safety of frontline personnel,” the press release stated.
