(City, 13th) Russian Ambassador to Brunei, Mikhail Baranov, stated that Russia highly values cooperation within forums centered on ASEAN and regards ASEAN as an important pillar for regional security and development, with Brunei playing a crucial role in promoting inclusive dialogue in this field.
Russian Ambassador to Brunei, Mikhail Baranov, made this statement at the Russian National Day reception held on Wednesday evening.
The ambassador stated that our bilateral relations with Brunei are developing in the spirit of mutual respect and constructive engagement.
“In July 2024, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Brunei's Second Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato Seri Erywan, during ASEAN-related activities to reaffirm our mutual interest in strengthening political dialogue.”
Minister of Health, Dato Seri Erywan, was invited to attend as the main guest. The event was also attended by members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials, and guests from various sectors.
The event opened with the national anthems of Brunei and Russia, followed by a welcoming speech from Ambassador Baranov.
He noted that the Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister's Office of Brunei recently visited Moscow to attend the 13th Senior Officials Meeting on Security, conducting a series of productive bilateral talks that further strengthened cooperation in the security field.
The ambassador stated that Russia and Brunei also maintain close coordination within international organizations, with both countries often sharing similar views on global challenges and norms of international relations.
“I believe that our partnership will continue to expand into areas like energy, education, cultural exchange, and regional security, benefiting the people of both nations and promoting peace and development in the Asia-Pacific region and the world.”
At the end of the evening, the ambassador and the main guest held a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony to celebrate Russian National Day.
