(Saratok, 9th) — A 30-year-old teacher lost nearly RM250,000 last month after falling for an investment advertisement on social media.
Saratok District Police Chief DSP Mathew Manggie stated that the victim made a total of nine transactions, including one using a cash deposit machine, with the total amount reaching RM249,800.
“The teacher was in Sarikei on November 17, 2024, when she was lured by an investment advertisement on Facebook. She subsequently contacted an individual managing the Facebook account and was added to a WhatsApp group.”

“The victim made nine transactions, including one via a cash deposit machine, totaling RM249,800. After realizing she had been scammed, she only managed to recover RM30,000.” he said in a statement yesterday.
Police subsequently arrested a 39-year-old woman from Pasir Gudang, Johor, suspected to be involved in this non-existent investment scam.
“Investigations show that the suspect is the holder of the bank account receiving the funds. She claims that after seeing a loan advertisement on Facebook, she handed her ATM card and password to certain individuals, but claims she was unaware her account was used for fraud.” he said.
Additionally, Mathew noted that police had also acted on another vehicle sales scam case.

“A 29-year-old woman from Bota, Perak, was arrested for involvement in a vehicle sales scam conducted via social media platforms.”
“The victim, a 23-year-old local man from Sibu, saw an advertisement for a pickup truck priced at RM32,600 at the Saratok intersection on September 22, 2025, and transferred RM5,819.41 as a deposit.”
“Police investigation found that the suspect had previously participated in other vehicle sales transactions on Facebook, and had also paid another individual RM5,257.75. The suspect also handed over her bank ATM card as collateral to the relevant person.” he said.
Both suspects will be charged at the Saratok Magistrate’s Court on December 22.
