Hong Kong singer Janice Vidal appeared at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur on the evening of the 12th to hold a fan meet-and-greet event, building buzz for her November 1st “OUT OF FRAME” World Tour Malaysia stop. She not only interacted closely with fans and played games, but also surprised the crowd by singing her new song “The Best Version Of Me” as well as the classic hit “Big Brother.” The Malaysian fan club prepared a durian cake, a “20-Year Memoir,” and a “time capsule” filled with handwritten wishes and five-year hopes for Janice from fans. Touched by their thoughtfulness, she was moved to tears, exclaiming, “This is so meaningful, I’m really moved! Thank you, you guys are so thoughtful!”
Janice greeted fans as soon as she appeared, happily saying: “So happy to be here!” The audience responded with “Welcome to Malaysia,” and she replied, “Truly touched!” She then blew kisses to the crowd, further heating up the atmosphere.
This year marks Janice Vidal’s 20th anniversary since her debut, and she hopes to celebrate together with her fans. She described the “OUT OF FRAME” world tour as a night full of love, and a time to share beautiful memories with her fans. Reflecting on her journey as an independent musician, she admitted: “The past two and a half years were very confusing for me, but I also found another path. I’m happy that I’ve opened another door.” Speaking about the future, she said: “I hope to make Chinese and English albums that I like, and to continue touring.” She also revealed she is currently working on a new Chinese-language album.
At the meet-and-greet, Janice delighted fans with a very interactive session, playing a “chemistry quiz” game, and drawing 10 lucky fans—5 were invited onstage for group photos, and 5 others received autographed posters. She also shook hands, hugged, took selfies, and posed for a group photo with everyone. Before leaving, she performed her classic track “Big Brother,” sparking a sing-along with the fans and bringing the atmosphere to its climax.
At the press conference before the meet-and-greet, Janice said Malaysia has always held a special place in her heart, and she hinted that she would tailor exclusive songs and a unique “Special Moment” performance for the Malaysian show. Returning to the Malaysian stage after 17 years, she joked that she felt both “excited and grateful: Malaysia holds a truly special place in my heart!” She revealed that she will perform songs in Malaysia that have not been performed in other tour locations, welcomed fans to request songs, and promised to do her best to deliver a great show.
As for concert guests, Janice said she already had someone in mind but had not formally invited them yet, keeping it a secret for now: “Currently considering a male singer and a female singer, most likely Malaysian. I want to keep it a surprise until concert day.” When asked which Malaysian artist she most wanted to collaborate with, she immediately named Shila Amzah: “I noticed her during 'I Am a Singer' and truly admire her voice. Hope to have a chance to work together.”
The theme of the “OUT OF FRAME” world tour is Janice’s personal promise to herself—to break out of the box, leave her comfort zone, and encourage every listener through music to boldly pursue their dreams, do what they want, and show their truest selves. She explained that this stemmed from a major decision two and a half years ago: “I decided to leave my record label, to step out of a comfort zone I’d been in for years. I was nervous and scared, but I didn’t want to stay stagnant in comfort. If you’re too comfortable, there’s no breakthrough. When you step out of the box, new doors open up for you.” She admitted that after starting her own company, there were tough times: “Those two and a half years were confusing, I cried a lot, but I also grew and made breakthroughs.”
When asked to sum up her 20-year music journey in one word, Janice said: “Gratitude. I’m grateful that I can still sing and share my work. I hope everyone still wants to hear me sing—that’s my greatest motivation.”
