Regarding the reciprocal tariffs imposed by the United States on our country, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Dato' Seri Tengku Zafrul and Second Finance Minister Dato' Seri Amiruddin Hamzah will depart for Washington tonight for discussions.
“We expect to meet with the U.S. Trade Representative and their team, as well as other stakeholders, on Thursday (24th) to explore future directions together.”
Zafrul stated this while attending the Johor-Singapore Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) joint business and investment forum.
He reiterated that our country will not take retaliatory tariff measures, and is committed to reaching a favorable resolution.
“We must, and will, find a solution that is acceptable to both parties, fair, and just, through bilateral and multilateral avenues.”
“The process will be lengthy and certainly complex, but we will do our utmost.”
U.S. President Trump announced on April 1st the imposition of retaliatory tariffs on several countries, with Malaysia facing a rate of 24%.
