(Israel, 27th) Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has decided to pause fighting in the Gaza Strip for one day. The Israeli military also announced it will resume airdropping humanitarian aid into Gaza, and is taking several measures to alleviate the humanitarian crisis.
According to Israeli state television Kan TV News, Netanyahu announced the ceasefire on Sunday (27th) after consultations on Saturday night (July 26) with Defense Minister Katz, Foreign Minister Saar, and other senior officials, in response to international pressure on the situation in Gaza.
The Israel Defense Forces also stated in a release on Saturday that they will resume airdropping humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip that day, including flour, sugar, and canned food.
According to Reuters, the Israeli military also said it would establish a "humanitarian corridor" to ensure the safe passage of UN convoys delivering aid to Gaza, and will implement a "humanitarian pause" in densely populated areas. However, authorities did not provide further details.
Humanitarian organizations have repeatedly warned that famine conditions in Gaza are worsening. Since Israel closed all crossings into the Gaza Strip in March, the flow of aid has been severely restricted.
