(China, 27th) North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, commemorating the 72nd anniversary of the Korean War armistice, said he would never forget the fallen soldiers of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army, and paid respects at the China-North Korea Friendship Tower.
Sunday (July 27) was the anniversary of the Korean War armistice. According to KCNA, Kim Jong Un visited the China-North Korea Friendship Tower in Pyongyang, North Korea’s capital, on Saturday (July 26) to mark the 72nd anniversary of the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement.
The report says that a wreath was laid at the Friendship Tower in the name of Kim Jong Un. Kim stated: “We will forever remember the heroic deeds and contributions of the martyrs of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army, which are inscribed in the glorious history of the War for the Liberation of the Fatherland.”
North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui and Kim Song Nam, Head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, accompanied him.
According to Xinhua News Agency, on Friday (July 25), the Chinese Embassy in North Korea visited cemeteries for the fallen soldiers of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army in Kusong County, North Pyongan Province, and other places, to pay homage to more than 1,100 Chinese soldiers buried there who participated in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea.
On July 27, 1953, North Korea, the United States, and China signed an armistice agreement, ending three years of war on the Korean Peninsula.
Some analysts previously believed that relations between North Korea and China had cooled recently, while North Korea was simultaneously deepening ties with Russia. However, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has responded by saying that claims about issues in China-North Korea relations, or that China and Russia are competing for influence with North Korea, are "completely intentional hype," and emphasized that China's consistent position of valuing traditional friendly and cooperative relations with North Korea has not changed.
