A landslide occurred in Chongqing, China on the 17th, which has so far resulted in at least 8 deaths and 34 people missing, with 18 people rescued from the scene. The landslide took place in Han'jia Street, Pengshui County, Chongqing.

Footage broadcast by CCTV showed that parts of a residential area and business street at the foot of the mountain were buried by massive rocks and soil. Other footage showed people screaming as they fled the scene.

Wang Chuanjun, director of the Pengshui County Planning and Natural Resources Bureau, stated that according to on-site geological surveys by experts, the landslide measured about 60 meters in length, about 30 meters in height, and about 10 meters in thickness, with a total volume of about 18,000 cubic meters. The largest unstable rock mass alone is about 3,000 cubic meters, classifying it as a large-scale collapse. Scattered unstable rocks remain at the top and on both sides of the steep collapsed cliff. Under conditions of heavy rainfall, consecutive sunny days, or extreme weather, there remains a potential risk of further collapses.
