(Thailand, 20th) Thai health authorities said on Sunday (July 19) that a 20-year-old woman who was injured in the Bangkok bar fire has died. The death toll from this fire has now risen to 34.

According to AFP, a devastating fire broke out on July 12 at the Laphao Beer Brewery Bar & Restaurant in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district. Police stated that most victims died from inhaling thick smoke, while some succumbed to severe burns in hospital.

The Erawan Emergency Medical Center in Bangkok said that 20-year-old Apinya Sukthongsa passed away in hospital early Sunday morning.

The medical center reported that around 70 people were injured in the fire, including 13 who are still being treated in intensive care.

There have long been loopholes in the safety regulations and their enforcement at bars, nightclubs, and similar venues in Thailand.

In 2009, a fire broke out during New Year celebrations at Santika Bar in Bangkok, resulting in 67 deaths and more than 200 injuries.
