Indonesia Reforestation to Restore Flood Damage

(Indonesia, 20th) – Last November, Indonesia’s Sumatra Island experienced severe flooding. The Peusangan River, which flows through Bireuen in Aceh province, overflowed and triggered a flash flood. Villages along the river were submerged, bridges collapsed, and much of the local infrastructure was destroyed, causing significant damage to the local ecosystem and surrounding communities. Nearly eight months later, reconstruction work in the disaster area remains incomplete, and reforestation projects are still ongoing.

Indonesian environmental activists and volunteers replanted trees along the banks of the Peusangan River last weekend to restore the local environment. The tree-planting activity aims to reinforce the riverbank, preserve biodiversity, and help reduce the risk of future flooding.
