According to a report by The New York Times on the 13th, U.S. President Trump has officially notified Congress that the conflict with Iran has reignited.
The New York Times noted that on that day, it obtained a letter sent by Trump to Congressional leaders on the 10th, in which he wrote that U.S. forces had carried out defensive strikes against targets within Iran on the 7th.
The report said that this letter has once again intensified the dispute between Congress and the White House. Although both the House and Senate had previously voted to require the President to end the war or seek approval before continuing actions, the White House insists that Trump, as Commander-in-Chief, is acting within his constitutional authority.
On June 23, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution limiting the President's war powers, requiring President Trump to end military actions against Iran and obtain Congressional authorization before any future military actions against Iran. This resolution had previously been passed by the House of Representatives.
