On June 22, Stephen Chow (known as Xing Ye) celebrated his 64th birthday. He released a video revealing that he is currently rushing the post-production for Kung Fu Women’s Soccer, hoping for a release on July 10. If that’s not possible, then July 17. And if that can’t be met either? He said: “One day, I’ll make it!” Not forgetting to cheer himself on: “I’ll try my best.” He also shared a hand-drawn 'concept poster', filled with Xing Ye’s signature irreverent humor.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is being held from June 12 to July 19, and the script written and directed by Stephen Chow, Kung Fu Women's Soccer, is perfectly catching this wave of worldwide soccer fever. The story combines Shaolin kung fu and football, telling the tale of the women's team “Emei” making a legendary comeback to win the championship. The cast includes Zhang Xiaofei, Zhang Yixing, Dilraba Dilmurat, along with former national footballers Zhao Lina and Li Jiayue, with South Korea’s award-winning actor Song Kang-ho making a cameo as the referee.

The film started shooting in Shenzhen on March 7, 2025 and wrapped up on June 2 of the same year, with a budget of about 380 million RMB (around 230 million Malaysian ringgit). Reportedly, the movie contains more than 1,200 visual effects shots, with the team currently in an all-out sprint for post-production. On June 22, Chow personally announced the July 10 or July 17 release, which made netizens joke about his 'flexible release dates.' #
