Xie Jiahong: Spend More Time and Show More Care While Your Parents Are Still with You

(Miri, 15th) Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism Chen Chaoyao, represented by Xie Jiahong, stated that in Chinese culture, "filial piety" has always been regarded as an important virtue. Children should spend more time with and show more care to their parents while they are still around, so that the elders can truly feel warmth and filial love.

He said that although Chinese New Year has passed Yuan Xiao Festival, it is still within the first lunar month, and everyone is still immersed in the festive atmosphere of the New Year. Thus, the gathering that night was not just a New Year’s reunion, but also a meaningful banquet to show respect for the elderly.

He pointed out that organizations like Zili Pavilion not only hold festive events, but also actively promote moral education, such as organizing moral seminars and speech competitions to cultivate the character, manners, and correct values of children from a young age.

Xie Jiahong attended, on behalf of Chen Chaoyao, the Zili Pavilion of Miri Moral Uplifting Society’s 2026 Bingwu Year New Year Reunion and Elderly Respect Banquet held at the Bay Garden Hotel last night, he expressed these sentiments during his speech themed "Success at Once, Prosperity at Once".

He stated that in an era of highly developed information dissemination, children have quick access to information, so it is even more necessary to guide them in establishing correct morals and values from a young age. The development of a country depends not only on economic progress, but also on the construction of value systems.

He also pointed out that grassroots organizations are important bridges between the government and the people. For example, when the government launches aid programs, they can help elders to check information or provide guidance, making it possible for more eligible individuals to benefit.
