Russian Circus Tiger Charges Into Audience: Some Flee, Others Calmly Watch

Published at Apr 23, 2026 02:34 pm
During a recent tiger performance by the "Dovgalyuk Circus" in Rostov Oblast, Russia, a safety net suddenly malfunctioned and broke, causing three tigers to become untethered in an instant. Amid the chaos, one tiger leapt over the barrier and charged into the audience, triggering panic.

According to British media reports, the circus tent was filled with families at the time of the incident. The animal trainer was directing the tigers' act when the protective safety net hanging around the area suddenly fell. Staff rushed to reattach the net, but could not prevent one tiger from slipping into the seating area.

Fortunately, the tiger ran past empty seats and slipped out through a tent gap onto the street, where it wandered for a while. The animal trainer eventually caught up, put a collar on the tiger, and led it back to its cage without causing any injuries.

The circus director, Nikolai, later admitted the accident was due to staff error. He stated that the tigers were usually well-trained and gentle-natured, and expressed gratitude to the audience for staying calm.

After footage of the incident was released, animal protection groups and the public called for a full ban on wild animal performances.
