Compromise Solution to Ukraine Issue Not Reached in Russia-US Talks

Published at Dec 03, 2025 10:11 am
Yuri Ushakov, Assistant to the President of Russia, said on the 3rd that a meeting between Russian President Putin and U.S. Middle East envoy Whitcoff at the Kremlin did not yield a compromise solution to the Ukraine issue. However, there were no additional differences in positions, and both sides are "no further" from peace.

The meeting began at around 7:30 p.m. local time on the 2nd and lasted nearly five hours. The Russian delegation also included Ushakov and Dmitriev, the President's Special Representative for Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation. The U.S. delegation, aside from Whitcoff, included Kushner, the son-in-law of U.S. President Trump.

After the meeting, Ushakov told the media that the talks were "very beneficial, constructive, and highly informative."

He said the Russian side received a "peace plan" from the U.S. as well as four other documents at the meeting. These documents concern a long-term solution to the Ukraine crisis, but the specific content is "not disclosable." The Russian and U.S. sides did not discuss the wording or proposals of specific documents, but rather discussed their substantive content. There is still much work to be done, and both sides will continue to stay in contact.

No Compromise Solution on Ukrainian Territorial Issue

Regarding the issue of occupied Ukrainian territories, Ushakov said: "So far, we have not found a compromise solution, but we can discuss some U.S. proposals for solutions."

He noted that the two sides also discussed the prospects for future Russia-U.S. economic cooperation, but this would require both sides to demonstrate a genuine willingness to cooperate.

When asked about the possibility of future meetings between the leaders of Russia and the U.S., Ushakov said this will depend on the efforts and progress of various levels of institutions in both countries.

Meanwhile, Dmitriev wrote on social media that the Russia-U.S. talks were "productive."
