Zhang Ziyi Wins Award for 'The Murderer in Jiangyuan Lane' — Laughs About 'Jia Jia Hui' Wanting to Do a Romance Film Together

Zhang Ziyi, Nick Cheung, Fala Chen, Michael Hui, Louise Wong, Fish Liew, Louis Cheung, Kay Tse, and others attended the Hong Kong Screenwriters’ Guild Spring Banquet and Awards Ceremony 2026 last night (10th) in Tsim Sha Tsui. Zhang Ziyi took home the 'Best Film Character of the Year' award for her performance in The Murderer in Jiangyuan Lane.

In an interview, Zhang Ziyi said that it had been a long time since she last visited Hong Kong, and that this time she received an award upon her return, directly stating that 'Hong Kong really is my lucky place.' She admitted that she hadn’t expected to win, since only the first half of The Murderer in Jiangyuan Lane has been released so far: 'To win an award with just half a movie is really a surprise,' and expressed her gratitude to the Hong Kong Screenwriters’ Guild for recognizing her role.

When asked whether she had seen any of the films starring her competitor Nick Cheung, such as Redemption of Dreams, Zhang Ziyi revealed that she had seen some of them. She laughed and said that she happened to be seated next to Nick Cheung that evening and the two even chatted about hoping to collaborate on a film in the future.

When asked what genre she would most like to do if they were to work together, Zhang Ziyi said frankly: 'Actually, I haven’t acted in a romance film before. If I were to work with him, it should be a romance!' 

When asked if she could understand Nick Cheung’s Mandarin, Zhang Ziyi joked that it was no problem at all, even teasing, 'Jia Jia Hui.' She mentioned she’d seen the funny videos of Nick Cheung speaking Mandarin before and found them rather cute.
