Chinese actor Gao Yunxiang (now renamed Gao Shenghui) rose to male idol status after playing 'Yiqu King' in 'The Legend of Mi Yue.' In 2018, he was accused of sexual assault while in Australia. Although the charges were not upheld, the incident greatly impacted his acting career—not only did he divorce his star wife Dong Xuan, but his path to return to showbiz remains out of reach.
According to the latest media reports, Dong Xuan’s company, 'Beijing Yixuan Culture Brokerage Co., Ltd.', has recently appeared in a court enforcement notice requiring payment of as much as 49.42 million RMB (about 28.24 million MYR). The case involves a contract dispute between 'Zhejiang Tangde Film & TV Co., Ltd.' and 'Beijing Yixuan Culture Brokerage Co., Ltd.' as well as Dong Xuan’s ex-husband Gao Yunxiang’s related acting agreements.
The report points out that at the time, 'Tangde Film & TV', which had invited Gao Yunxiang to Australia to film the TV drama 'Anaya Love,' sued Gao Yunxiang. Gao was sued in 2019, and the verdict was issued in 2022. Gao Yunxiang was ordered to compensate 'Tangde Film & TV' for production losses amounting to 48.85 million RMB (about 27.91 million MYR). With interest, liquidated damages, lawyer’s fees, etc., the total reached about 50 million RMB (about 28.57 million MYR).
The verdict shows that Dong Xuan, who had been divorced from Gao Yunxiang for three years at the time, and her 'Beijing Yixuan Culture Brokerage Co., Ltd.' also have to bear joint and several liability; though the official notice did not specify the details, many people can't help but feel bad for Dong Xuan, angrily saying: 'Why does Dong Xuan have to take responsibility? She’s really unlucky.'#
