(Bandar Seri Begawan, 16th) The enforcement division of the Kuala Belait District Office recently imposed a fine of $500 on an individual who violated Section 12(1)(d) of the 2021 Litter Act (Chapter 30).
This provision prohibits discarding, dumping or scattering any dust, sand, clay, compost, gravel, grass, straw, wood shavings, sawdust, ashes, garden soil, shed earth, commercial waste, excrement, garbage or any other items and materials in any public place, whether from a moving vehicle or by any other means.

The Kuala Belait District Office enforcement division once again warns the public not to litter in public places.
For first-time offenders, if convicted, the fine will be not less than $1,000 and not more than $3,000. For second or subsequent offences, a fine of not less than $3,000 and not more than $9,000 will be imposed; or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.
This routine monitoring operation aims to ensure better environmental maintenance. Any individual or company that irresponsibly disposes of waste will be penalized in accordance with the law.
The enforcement division of the Kuala Belait District Office always reminds all individuals and corporate groups to comply with all current national regulations, to work together to maintain environmental cleanliness, and to dispose of waste at Brunei government-designated areas.
