(Beirut, 28th) Lebanese President Aoun spoke with US President Trump, hoping that the United States could help prevent violations of agreements, especially by urging Israel to withdraw its troops from the occupied areas in southern Lebanon.
According to Xinhua News Agency, the Lebanese presidential office issued a statement on Saturday (June 27) saying that Aoun had a phone conversation with Trump that day, pledging that the Lebanese government would fulfill its responsibility to implement the Lebanon-Israel framework agreement.
However, he hopes the United States could help prevent violations of the agreement and ensure that all commitments under the agreement are fulfilled, in particular by urging Israel to withdraw its troops from the occupied areas in southern Lebanon, so that the Lebanese army could be deployed to the internationally recognized borders.
In response, Trump reiterated Washington's support for Lebanon and its people, and pledged to be committed to the implementation of the agreement and to restoring Lebanon's security and stability.
Trump said that Washington would support Lebanon's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, as well as the exercise of national authority throughout the country through the armed forces.
Trump also stated that he looked forward to meeting with Aoun in Washington in the near future.
After four days of negotiations between Lebanese, Israeli and US diplomats, a tripartite framework agreement was reached on Friday (the 26th). After the signing of the agreement, US Secretary of State Rubio issued a statement saying that the agreement establishes a "clear and orderly process" for the disarmament of Hezbollah and the dismantling of the infrastructure it controls, with the US to lead a military working group to assist with implementation.
He revealed that the United States would invest significant resources, including an immediate grant of 100 million US dollars (about 414 million ringgit), and would coordinate with the United Nations to provide humanitarian aid to the Lebanese people; the US would also allocate 30 million US dollars to help the Lebanese army "more effectively establish sovereignty within Lebanese territory."
