(Kuching, 26th) Sarawak’s 11-year-old musical prodigy Taylor Louise Fong has once again brought international honor to Malaysia, clinching first place and the “Exceptional Young Talent Special Prize” at the 2025 International Music Competition Paris Grand Prize Virtuoso, shining brilliantly on the world stage.
This remarkable achievement has also earned her an invitation to perform at the Opéra Bastille in Paris on December 12th this year, marking her debut on the stage of one of Europe’s top opera houses.
Taylor described her triumph in Paris as “both thrilling and deeply meaningful.”
She said: “I really can’t put my feelings into words, but first of all, I want to thank God. I am very grateful and pray that my upcoming performance in Paris will go smoothly.”
Earlier this year, she had already represented Malaysia on two international stages—the ASAF Award Winners’ Concert at the Royal College of Music’s Britten Theatre in London, and the Sanremo Junior World Finals in Italy—successfully placing among the global top five.
Her previous international honors also include a gold medal and overall group champion at the World Championship of Performing Arts in Los Angeles, USA, as well as being a double champion at the Asia Students Arts Festival held in Singapore and Hong Kong.
Taylor began her musical journey singing on the streets of Kuching and at open mic events, later receiving formal training under the tutelage of renowned choral conductor Sabrina Tnay. Her steady growth has made her a role model for many young Sarawakians aspiring to the performing arts.
This August, she gained further attention for her role as “Rayna” in the musical “Dreamweaver” produced by Tanoti and staged at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC). It is worth noting that she was the only child actor in the cast.
Taylor’s achievements continue to bring international attention to Sarawak and Malaysia, proving that world-class artistic talent can indeed flourish from local soil.
